Guides

Card programs

Issue Visa cards to your customers or employees under your own brand, fund them from your GLORESEND wallet, and manage their lifecycle through the API.

How it works

  1. Your USD wallet in GLORESEND pays for cards. Issuance, KYC and top-up fees and every amount you load are debited from it; withdrawals are credited back.
  2. Each operation reserves the amount plus fees, calls the card issuer, then settles — or releases the reservation if the issuer fails. Nothing is charged for a failed operation.
  3. Your customers only ever see GLORESEND identifiers (card_…) and your brand.

Sandbox and Live

  • Sandbox: free and available to every account. Cards are simulated, carry Visa test numbers and cannot be used to pay.
  • Live: requires an activated account (business verification and the one-time $1,999 setup fee) and approved Live access. Your Live USD wallet is credited after we confirm your deposit.

Issue a card

curl -X POST "https://api.gloresend.com/sandbox/v1/cards" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $GLORESEND_TEST_KEY" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: $(uuidgen)" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "product": "visa-404",
    "cardholder": {
      "first_name": "Ada",
      "last_name": "Example",
      "email": "ada@example.com"
    },
    "initial_load": 5000
  }'

The response includes the card and an issuance object with the fees charged.

Limits

  • Initial load: $10.00 to $2500.00.
  • Each funding or withdrawal: $5.00 to $2500.00.
  • At least $5.00 must remain on a card after a withdrawal.
  • Only one operation at a time per card; concurrent requests receive operation_in_progress — retry with the same Idempotency-Key.

Lifecycle

  • POST /cards/{id}/freeze and /unfreeze block and re-enable authorizations.
  • POST /cards/{id}/terminate closes a card permanently once its balance is at most $5.00. That remainder returns to your wallet immediately in the Sandbox, and after the issuer releases it (up to 45 days) in Live.
  • Webhook events: card.created, card.funded, card.withdrawn, card.status_changed.

Testing in the Sandbox

  • POST /test/cards/{id}/authorizations simulates a purchase; it is declined if the card is not active or its balance is too low.
  • A cardholder email ending in +provider_error@… or +timeout@… simulates an issuer failure at issuance.

Card numbers and PCI DSS

Handle full card numbers with care

GET /cards/{id}/details returns the full number and CVV and requires the cards:sensitive scope, which is not granted by default. GLORESEND does not store these values. Any system that receives them is in PCI DSS scope: never log, store or send them to analytics, and display them only to the cardholder.
